Community Open House
TO REVIEW THE DRAFT UPDATE OF THE
SOUTH VALLEYS AREA PLAN

This drop-in format meeting is designed to allow you to review the proposed maps, goals, and policies of the draft South Valleys Area Plan. Washoe County staff will be available to ask questions and take feedback on the proposals. The Department of Community Development is looking for comments and suggestions that can be used to further refine the maps and text. The primary goal of this community wide meeting is to ensure that the updated Area Plan is responsive to the desire of South Valley’s residents, land owners and business owners to 1) Enhance opportunities for the enjoyment of the area’s historical, natural and recreational resources, 2) Ease the transition from traditional ranching to other economic activities, and 3) Preserve the unique character of the area for present and future generations.


The Area Plan serves as the master plan and zoning map for the Washoe Valley, Pleasant Valley and Steamboat Valley areas of Washoe County. The purpose of the Area Plan is to act as a guide for the Washoe County Planning Commission, the Board of County Commissioners, and the community on matters of growth and development within the South Valleys planning area. The plan outlines the existing pattern of development and guides future growth by recognizing important natural resources and constraints, establishing future land use and transportation patterns, and identifying current and future public services and facilities needs.
